What
do cat litter maggots, slimey carrots, old bottles, doggie
day, noxtious weeds, no-pee zone and Mayor Karen Farbridge
have in common ... other than Wet Dry Plus+++ the pesticide
ban and smart Guelph?
They
are all search engine words that bring internet surfers,
researchers, the curious and all of the world to the Guelph
Alert web site!
The phrase "build it and they will come" is absolutely
NOT true when applied to the internet. Millions of web sites
are built and never viewed, except by the builder and their
cousin that they forced to visit the site. The reason is
because 99.9% of all web sites are not able to obtain favourable
listings in the search engines. A web site has to be listed
within a least the first three pages of search results,
to ever be seen and there are millions of people all trying
to get their web sites into those top 60+ positions. Search
engine optimization techniques and effective web site marketing
tactics are the most rare and valuable of all internet skills.
After Guelph Alert was launched in February 2003, the Guelph
Alert web team dedicated a great deal of time, attention,
effort and resources to the marketing of the GA web site
... and I do mean a GREAT deal of effort!
We are now seeing the fruits of those ongoing labours of
love and some of the results are quite surprising. This
is just the beginning of a spark that is rapidly accelerating
into a raging fire.
Guelph Alert has achieved exceptionally high rankings in
all of the internet search engines, for searches related
to any Guelph issue. Search for any council
member, any civic issue, anything to do with
our city and all digital roads lead to Guelph Alert.
As an example, go to www.Yahoo.com
and type in " Dan Moziar " (without the quotations)
hit search and the number one spot (as on this date - results
are always changing daily) to find our councillor Dan Moziar
is at the Guelph Alert Forums. Do
a search for " Joe Sharpe " in Guelph. Type in
" Joe Sharpe Guelph " and there he is ... position
number 6, just under Roma Joe's Restaurant, and St. Joe's
Hospital ... it's " the Audit Guelph Petition launched
by Joe Sharpe " web page of the Guelph Alert site!
Type in any GA member name like Nora Black and specify it
to a city, so the search would be Nora Black Guelph. Search
and you have found her or at least her opinion at GA. Try
the same with Ron Noel Guelph, Peter Hamtak Guelph etc.
etc. ... you get the picture and it's pretty awesome!
Have some fun. While you are at Yahoo, or any search engine,
type in " Any Word " and " Guelph ".
The results are amazing!
A
review of the logs yields the expected as well as some weird
and unusual results. Listed below are some of the search
words that bring tons of visitors to our little corner of
the digital universe. This list will be updated occasionally
with new and interesting search engine words. Because Guelph
Alert is a civic and political issues web site, there are
also some interesting search engines listed below that showcase
GA in the political sections of their directory listings.
